The Writers Block Ink Presents its Spring Showcase at Shaw’s Landing on Saturday, March 29
Registration Begins for 2008 Summer Session June 30 – August 17
New London, CT – The Writers Block Ink’s Spring Showcase celebrates the group’s five seasons of original youth productions. Beginning at 2:00 PM at Shaw’s Landing on Saturday, March 29, the Showcase will feature students from New London, Waterford and other area towns performing their own poetry, music and dance on the themes of addressing life’s challenges and reaching out to achieve aspirations and realize dreams. Admission is $20 for adults and $5 for students, payable at the door. Proceeds will fund classes and future productions. “The Writers Block’s ultimate purpose is to inspire young people to pursue education,” says Writers Block founder Clarissa Beyah-Taylor. “We want to inspire every young person we can to desire an education both for its own sake and as a means to ignite social change.”
“We support The Writers Block’s goals and are proud to host these young performers who are contributing so much to New London’s vibrant artistic climate,” says Cheryl Desmond of Shaw’s Landing Waterfront Condominiums.
Summer Session Registration – Students from 8-21 years can register now for courses in Acting, Creative Writing, Dance, Set Design & Construction, and Voice & Musical Instruments running from June 30 – August 17. The Summer Session will close with Community Performances on August 15, 16 and 17. Registration Kits can be downloaded at www.writersblockink.com. Summer Session costs are $20/week and $140 for the full seven-week program.
The Writers Block Ink was started in 2003 to encourage youth to use writing and performance as tools to address personal and social challenges and to help each young person find his or her own voice. Writers Block courses are structured to guide students to improve writing skills, build self-confidence and practice leadership and teamwork. Since it’s founding, Block students (ages 8-21) have written, choreographed, run, advertised and performed seven original productions.
